In the wake of Sony Online Entertainment's decision to shut down its servers on Monday, the MMO division from Sony is giving the players of at least one game some free time and a free in-game item when the servers come back online. On the official DC Universe Online Facebook page, Sony Online announced that players of the recently launched super hero MMO game will get a credit on their account for 30 free days for their subscription. In addition players will get one extra day for each day the servers are shut down. Also those players will also get an extra free in-game item; a mask for their super hero character that's inspired by Batman.
DC Universe was launched for the PC and Xbox 360 consoles last January and was called Sony Online's fastest selling game in its history when it launched. Just before Monday's shut down, Sony Online said that DC Universe Online would consolidate its servers and would be run with only four "super servers"; one for each platform in the US and the same for Europe. So far Sony Online has yet to reveal any "Make Good" plans for its other MMO games that have been affected by the server shut down, including its Everquest games, Star Wars Galaxies, Free Realms and others.
Sony Online shut down the MMO servers on Monday after discovering that personal info from those servers had been taken as a result of the same cyber attacks that caused Sony to also shut down the servers of the console-based Playstation Network on April 20. Sony Online has issued a new press release today that states "approximately 24.6 million SOE accounts may have been stolen" along with "approximately 12,700 non-U.S. credit or debit card numbers and expiration dates (but not credit card security codes), and about 10,700 direct debit records of certain customers in Austria, Germany, Netherlands and Spain." There is still no word on when Sony Online will bring the servers back online.
