Dead Space 2 gets an official release date

Speaking at the Electronic Arts E3 press conference, Visceral Games has announced the launch date for the upcoming Dead Space sequel.

Dead Space 2, the highly-anticipated survival horror third-person shooter is set to hit store shelves on January 25 in North America and January 28 in Europe.

Players will take the role of engineer Isaac Clarke, who must navigate through the alien infested space station known as the ‘Sprawl’. Beginning in the hospital aboard the space station, players will soon learn of the protagonist’s abandoned fate as they are faced once more against the deadly Necromorphs. A new arsenal of tools will be available to dismember the creatures. The experiences from the original game aboard the Ishimuraare are apparent throughout the storyline in addition to large roles of the government and Church of Unitology.

More information regarding the title will be revealed tomorrow during the Sony press conference. The announcement is just one of many that will unfold over the course of the 2010 Electronic Entertainment Expo in Los Angeles.
