For the past few years, developer Trion Worlds has been hyping up the fact that it has been creating an MMO game, Defiance, that would be intertwined with a TV series for the Syfy cable TV network. This past weekend, the company released the first gameplay trailer, via Machinima, for the shooter-themed title.
The trailer shows that Defiance will take place on a future version of Earth that has been overrun by aliens, with a few pockets of human resistance still left. The third person shooter looks, in terms of its art style, like a cross between Halo and Fallout with drivable vehicles and lots of shooting against that can bury under the earth and then come up to the surface for their attacks.
The game doesn't have a release date yet but Trion Worlds says it will be coming out for the PC and for some unnamed consoles. The Syfy TV series of the same name will begin filming in Canada later this month. The cast of the TV show includes a lot of sci-fi genre veterans, including Julie Benz (Buffy the Vampire Slayer, No Ordinary Family), Jaime Murrary (Warehouse 13) and Tony Curran (Underworld: Evolution; Doctor Who). It will be interesting to see how the game and the TV show actually link their storylines.
