Companies with Twitter accounts are becoming more and more popular as time passes. Microsoft, Google, and even us here at Neowin use it, to help spread announcements & news. Dell, however, uses it to drive sales, and so, the company has apparently pulled in $6.5M in revenue because of it.
According to Mashable, Dell mentioned that their company pulled in that amount of cash just from Twitter sales alone, though it's only a small percentage of their total earnings. In the last year, Dell managed $60 billion in revenue; none-the-less, $6.5 million is still no laughable amount. The Twitter feed for the company, DellOutlet, simply posts links to brief deals and sales, and with nearly 1.5 million followers, it certainly sees a broad audience.
Having a Twitter account has now become a viable means of getting some decent revenue, so it's understandable that a company would like to have a feed of its own. As Mashable notes, it'll be interesting to see how Twitter begins to cash in on this success; perhaps a paid corporate account, if rumors are to be believed. What do you think, Neowin? Is it good for a company to add this method to their revenue gaining ways, or is there a down side to it?
