DesktopX is a program that extends your Windows desktop to have a host of new features. Those features are too numerous to list here so in a nutshell:
1) Lets you have desktop widgets. Widgets being mini-applications that can do pretty much anything you want them to do but without the overhead of a seperate program and can be irregularly shaped (i.e. non-rectangular).
2) Let you have animated / live icons on your desktop that are both fluid and alpha blended to your background on the fly with virtually no CPU used.
3) Build your own custom desktop themes.
DesktopX 2.2 is a major update though because it includes a whole new graphics engine under the hood called DirectGUI 2. This is important because users of Windows XP and Windows 2000 can now use DesktopX themes, widgets, and objects without using hardly any memory overhead or CPU hit as DirectGUI will take advantage of the latest video card features.
