The reboot of the Devil May Cry action game franchise finally has a release date for the console versions. Capcom announced this week that DmC will launch on January 15th, 2013 for the Xbox 360 and PS3 platforms. Capcom also announced that it will release a PC version of the game, but it won't be out until sometime later in 2013.
DmC is the first game in the long running franchise that won't be directly developed by one of Capcom's internal teams. Instead, the game is being made by UK-based Ninja Theory. The team is best known for Heavenly Sword, a PS3 exclusive game released in 2007, and for Enslaved: Odyssey to the West, released for the PS3 and Xbox 360 in 2010.
DmC is set in what Capcom is calling a "parallel world" of the Devil May Cry series. The player controls Dante, a teenager who has to fight off monsters in Limbo City, which itself may be sentient. When the game was first announced in 2010, many fans of the Devil May Cry franchise didn't care for the design of the main character.
DmC is yet another game that was supposed to be released in late 2012 but will now come out in the first quarter of 2013. BioShock Infinite and the reboot of the Tomb Raider franchise have also been pushed back to a Q1 2013 launch.
