One of the most popular entries to the DiRT series of racing games is getting a sequel, with Codemasters announcing DiRT Rally 2.0 today. Unlike the original, the new title won't be going the route of Steam Early Access, and will release on PC, Xbox One, and PlayStation 4 platforms simultaneously next year.
Players will have six locations set around the world to get their off-road rally racing fix, featuring "hand crafted stages" and "a wide variety of cars from the history of the sport and modern day." Moreover, cars and circuits from the 2018 FIA World Rallycross Championship will also be available thanks to a partnership with the organization.
As Codemasters Chief Games Designer Ross Gowing explained, the title won't shy away from presenting a difficult driving experience just as the original did in 2015:
“Our passionate, knowledgeable community helped to make DiRT Rally a special title. We have been working with a selection of that community alongside a roster of real world rally drivers to ensure that we meet their high standards. We are not afraid to make a challenging game. Driving a rally car down a stage is not easy and we want players to experience that same adrenaline rush from driving on the edge.”
DiRT Rally 2.0 is slated to launch on February 26, 2019 and the studio is offering access to the Porsche 911 RGT as a bonus car for anyone who pre-orders the sim. A Deluxe Edition is also in the works, which will give four days of early access to the game as well as the first two post-launch DLC packages, among other bonuses.
