Driver 3 takes shape

First details have emerged on Reflection's hugely anticipated next instalment of the thrilling gangster action series

Shrouded in secrecy save for a pretty yet unrevealing trailer, Reflections' Driver is set to be one of the biggest titles of 2003. The first two games in the series were massive successes on PSone, as gamers thrilled at the underworld adventures of Tanner.

Since Driver 2, Rockstar has raised the bar to almost frightening levels with Grand Theft Auto 3 and GTA: Vice City, but when Driver returns next year, Infogrames will be hoping to offer Rockstar North's game serious competition.

Although Infogrames has battened down the hatches on the game in a big way, first details have slipped through the net. Driver 3 is heading to all next-gen platforms and PC, but PS2 and Xbox versions are said to be by far the most advanced, with insiders revealing that Driver 3 on Xbox is looking significantly better at present. Not a massive surprise, to be fair.

In terms of gameplay, Driver 3 boasts one major addition, inspired by the likes of The Getaway and GTA3: guns. As well as driving and running through the gritty streets, you'll be able to pick up a range of weapons that allow you to blast your way through anything standing in your path as you sprint around.

There is still a full year of development time left, with Driver 3 set to be one of the biggest titles on all-formats next Christmas, and you can expect much more on the game over the coming weeks and months.
