Sales monitor Media Create has announced that Nintendo's handheld DS system has passed the 20 million sales barrier in Japan. Released in December 2004, the Nintendo handheld sold six million units in Japan by February 2006 before the revamped DS Lite was launched. A further 14 million units have been snapped up since, equaling 20 million in just less than three years. According to Media Create, the DS, in its two guises, has captured 50.26 percent of the Japanese hardware market since releasing. 83.95 million software units have been sold, accounting for 40 percent of the entire software market. Two Brain Age titles, which between them have sold 8.35 million units, account for 9.94 percent of that figure.
