In an attempt to enter the new market for ultra-low-budget Linux-based consumer desktop PCs, EarthLink Inc announced this week it is to distribute its software on machines running Lindows.com Inc's operating system.
Setting up a dialup networking account on Linux boxes is not as easy as on Windows, the companies said. EarthLink's icon will appear on all LindowsOS machines, allowing a wizard-based dialup account installation.
The deal is good with the whole Lindows distribution channel. US retail giant WalMart sells Lindows-based PCs for as little as $199. Previously, Lindows said it has provided easy support for broadband connections, but this is the first dialup bundling deal it has announced.
