Ebay to Take Measures against Online Fraud

In response to recent security breaches on their website, Ebay has decided to take a step forward in protecting customers from on-line fraud. The new system would involve a two tier consumer fraud protection developed through VeriSign.

The 1st tier involves cross checking users with databases across the country-- comparing address's telephone numbers, and general customer information. The validity of this information would then be used to score the customer on a confidence level.

The 2nd tier would be used for larger purchases. The users would then be assigned confidence based on their credit reports and mortgage payments. The system is intended to stop general fraud, yet fails to prevent recent problems with hijacked account.
