It has been known for some time that the massive trading and space exploration game Elite: Dangerous would get Xbox One X support. However, the full extent of these enhancements and how it would be implemented has been a mystery. Today, Frontier Developments detailed the upcoming patch for the game on the 4K capable Xbox One X.
According to the forum post, Elite: Dangerous will offer players four settings; two resolution options, and two performance related choices. Since the Xbox One X can run games at native 4K, you will be able to choose between either the full-HD (1080p) option or the aforementioned native 4K (2160p) setting. As for the performance choices, Frontier noted that you can choose between two settings, namely 'performance', and 'quality' options. The performance setting will increase frame rates as one would expect, and the quality setting will give you higher quality assets among other things. These settings can be mixed and matched to your preference, meaning you can run the game at '1080p with quality settings' or '4K with performance mode'.
The patch went live a little earlier today at 11 AM GMT or 3 AM PT (New York), and the Xbox One X will go on sale tomorrow in several countries worldwide. Microsoft will hold a launch-day live stream from the Microsoft Store in New York to celebrate the launch of the console. The Xbox One X has been touted as the world's most powerful console, offering some of the best quality graphics and HDR support among others - you can check out our review here.
Elite: Dangerous is available right now for Xbox One, PlayStation 4, and PC.
