The latest update to the Epic Games Store delivers the first implementation of a major feature, mod support for games. The newly announced facility is currently only available for a single title, Piranha Games' MechWarrior 5: Mercenaries, but going forward, more games will receive support for the highly-requested feature.
The beta launch of Epic Games Store Mods sees Mechwarrior 5 modifications being available directly from the Epic launcher, and already there are some community creations available there. To access them, MechWarrior 5: Mercenaries store page now lists a "Mods" tab at the top of the window, letting users both browse creations and access the game's free and extensive modding toolkit. Any selected mods will automatically be installed onto the game without the need of a separate mod manager, similar to Steam Workshop.
Speaking of new features, Epic Games is also starting to rolling out achievement support to games on its store. Ark: Survival Evolved is the sole supported title for now, but just like modding support, more games should start seeing achievements pop up going forward.
Moreover, the store is currently in the middle of its summer sale, offering discounts on a wide range of its exclusives and other games. The weekly freebie promotion just got refreshed as well, which is currently delivering 20XX, Barony, and Superbrothers: Sword & Sworcery for free to all users.
