Essential has had a fairly turbulent start with its PH-1 smartphone but the firm has been doing its best to right the ship, with open conversations with its customers, price drops, and software updates. Now, the firm has opened access to its beta of Android 8.0 Oreo.
By heading to Essential's developer portal, users will be able to update their handset with a newer version of Android. Fortunately, you don't need to be a developer with this download being open to all.
Like with any update, you'll want to backup the contents of your smartphone to make sure that if anything is lost in the process, you can always retrieve it. Also be sure that you are comfortable with updating your device in this manner because it isn't a straightforward over-the-air update.
Lastly, this software is a beta and, as such, could contain bugs that could affect the handset in a variety of ways. Basically, proceed with caution, as Essential won't be able to provide support for the beta software. Luckily, If something does go wrong, you can always go back to the stock software, which is available on the same download page.
