The Gears of War 4 beta was scheduled to kick off yesterday, April 18. Early adopters of Gears of War: Ultimate Edition should have seen their invite codes hit their message feed through Xbox Live but, after waiting all day, many haven't received anything relating to the Gears of War 4 multiplayer beta. If you're one of the many that expected a code day one but are still without one: don't worry just yet.
The Coalition, the development studio making the next chapter in the Gears of War franchise, took to its forums to talk about what's going on with the invite process.
"Microsoft Operations had an issue this morning with their code drop and unfortunately the codes will not be distributed in chronological order as originally messaged".
There are two things that you need to know if you're expecting a Gears of War 4 beta invite and haven't received one yet. First, and most importantly, is that these invites are being passed out in chronological order. If you bought and played Gears of War: Ultimate Edition first, you're supposed to get your code before those that played the game later after launch. While The Coalition could have done a lot more to make sure gamers knew that these invites were being issued in chronological order, you may be in line still and not supposed to receive your invite yet.

"We will be doing another code drop this evening to help address some of the issues. As noted before, codes will be going out in waves as we ramp up our servers through the beta. Starting tomorrow morning (pacific time), we will be sending out a higher volume of codes to help compensate for this change and due to server stability seen during Day 1 of our beta".
Second, if you were an early adopter of Gears of War: Ultimate Edition, The Coalition has already begun bringing more servers online to handle a larger second wave of beta invites, which will allow those that should have been in on the first wave of invites into the game. If nothing else goes wrong, all Gears of War 4 early access beta invites should be received by the end of day on Thursday, 4/21/16.
If you want to play the Gears of War 4 multiplayer beta but didn't play Gears of War: Ultimate Edition prior to this month, there's a second phase of this beta that will be open to the public. Starting April 25, any Xbox Live Gold subscriber will have the chance to download the beta and play. There's a full list of beta access FAQs that you can read through if you need any more clarification.
The Gears of War 4 multiplayer beta ends on May 1, 2016.
