Facebook has announced a new update to its WhatsApp messenger client that will give group admins much more control over their groups. With the new update, admins will be able to use a toggle switch in the group settings to make it so that they are the only user who can send messages into the group.
In its blog post, Facebook said:
“Today, we're launching a new group setting where only admins are able to send messages to a group. One way people use groups is to receive important announcements and information, including parents and teachers at schools, community centers, and non-profit organizations. We've introduced this new setting so admins can have better tools for these use cases.”
The feature is quite nice because it offers more flexibility of groups, if we compare it to Telegram, you can either have groups, or channels - the latter option offers on directional chat, while groups allow anyone to speak; with the new WhatsApp update, the toggle essentially allows you to switch between the WhatsApp-equivalent of a group or channel.
In order to switch the feature on or off, open Group Info, tap Group Settings, Send Messages and select Only Admins. If you don’t see this option, just be patient. Facebook is assuring users that the feature is currently rolling out all around the world so it could just take a bit of time to become available.
