Facebook has begun updating Messenger so that users can send quoted replies to specific messages. Sending quoted replies is simple, just tap and hold on the specific message that you’d like to reply to and press the reply arrow to the right-hand side of the selection of reaction emoji.
If you pick up your phone to a barrage of sporadic messages and want to reply to each one individually, then threaded messages allow you to do this more concisely. It’s not only text that you can reply to either; you’ll be able to quote reply GIFs, videos, emoji, and photo messages too.
Back in January, Mark Zuckerberg decided that Facebook would integrate the messaging infrastructure of Instagram, WhatsApp, and Facebook so that users could send messages seamlessly between services. The addition of message replies to Facebook Messenger more closely aligns the service with WhatsApp, ready for the grand merger.
If you don’t see the new feature in Facebook Messenger yet just be patient as it could take a few days for the update to arrive on your phone.
