One year ago today, Facebook announced that its Workplace enterprise communication platform reached 5 million paid users. Today, the service reached a new milestone.
Facebook announced today that Workplace topped 7 million paid subscribers. The increase represents a 40% year-over-year growth of the platform's subscriber base. In a post on Facebook, CEO Mark Zuckerberg noted how the company started using Workplace only as an internal tool for communication before letting other companies use it.
The platform is designed to serve as an internal social network where employees can interact with each other. Currently, it counts Virgin Atlantic, Walmart, Telefónica, BT, Booking.com, Deliveroo, AstraZeneca, Starbucks, and Save the Children among its clients.
However, one of its main rivals, Microsoft Teams, is way ahead of the game. Last month, Microsoft announced that Teams reached more than 145 million daily active users, almost double its user base compared to last year.
Nonetheless, Facebook keeps rolling out new features to Workplace. Last year, it added features such as live Q&A, live captions, translations, and caption editing. This time around, the service has gained new capabilities and improvements including a new live Q&A experience to let you more easily answer questions from a large group of people. There's also an improved Knowledge Library with a new capability that's designed to let you gather content from other platforms so employees can access information in a single location.
