Facebook and Automattic have been working together on a plug-in that will allow Wordpress blogs to support Instant Articles.
Instant Articles is a platform that Facebook created to allow publishers to push out articles directly to Facebook. Facebook also sells ads for the platform, giving publishers 70% of the ad sales.
The ad sales are important. After all, ad revenue is what supports the vast majority of web sites on the Internet. Publishing directly to Facebook would keep readers from visiting the site.
Beginning on April 12, Instant Articles will be open to anyone who wants in and Facebook wants you to be ready. After all, over a quarter of all web sites are powered by Wordpress.
The plug-in will come with a number of customizable features, allowing bloggers to choose auto-play video or tap to zoom photo galleries. If the standard features aren't enough, that's OK because the plug-in is open source, so you can change whatever you want.
There are a number of Wordpress plug-ins available right now that claim to add support for Facebook's Instant Articles, as well as competitors such as Google's Accelerated Mobile Pages (AMP). Of course, bloggers will most likely want the official plug-in.
