iPad owners who are also heavy Facebook users have had to make do with a app that was made for the smaller iPhone rather than one made specifically for the iPad. We have reported on this issue before with rumors that Facebook has been working for months on an iPad exclusive Facebook app. Now it appears that at least the code for such an app has already been released in the latest version of the iPhone's Facebook app.
TechCrunch reports that it has actually been using the code for iPad app for Facebook. It already praises the iPad app's new navigation system which puts the menu on the left side of the iPad's screen and which can be access via touch. It also praises the app's phone viewer, the Places feature which shows where your Facebook friends are currently located and more. If you are thinking about trying to access the iPad Facebook code yourself, be warned. TechCrunch states it's very possible, " ... if you don’t mind doing some things you’re technically not supposed to do to your iPad." Sounds like more than a little hacking of the iOS operating system might be involved.
In any case it sounds like Facebook is getting very close indeed to releasing this iPad Facebook app to the general public very soon. With iPad sales surging and with no slowdown in sight, it's important that Facebook, and indeed other app makers, start to release iPad exclusive versions of their iOS apps in order to support that growing users base.
