At a mobile contents conference now being held in Japan, Square Enix unveiled further wireless plans for Final Fantasy. The company revealed that it is currently developing software targeting cell phones that will allow players to communicate with members of their clan in Final Fantasy XI, last year's massively multiplayer entry in the Final Fantasy series.
According to a company representative, Square Enix believes the Final Fantasy XI we've been playing for months now is meant to be a home title. "Porting [the game] as is to cell phones would not be possible on a technical level, and even if we did it, it would be meaningless when considering the cell phone scene," said the representative. "As a means of allowing players to be in contact with the FFXI world from a cell phone, we're developing a product for chatting and communicating with party members."
