After months of waiting, today Sony finally took the wraps off the PlayStation 5 series' price tags at its PS5 showcase. The full-fledged PS5 will cost $499 while the Digital Edition will set customers back $399. Alongside the price reveal, a couple of games were also announced such as Hogwarts Legacy, an open-world RPG set in the Harry Potter universe.
Square Enix also made an announcement at the PlayStation event, unveiling the latest instalment in the massively popular Final Fantasy series. The video game maker also revealed that the upcoming game titled Final Fantasy XVI will be available on the PlayStation 5 as a timed exclusive and PC later on. Viewers got to take a look at the newly announced RPG title in a game trailer, as seen above.
Storywise, Final Fantasy XVI will be a standalone title featuring a completely new set of characters and plot lines. The only summary of sorts disclosed by the announcement trailer reads:
"The legacy of the crystals has shaped our history for long enough."
No further details about the upcoming Final Fantasy title are available as of now. The game's producer Naoki Yoshida commented that Square Enix has its 'next big information reveal is scheduled for 2021', confirming that the game will not launch any time this year.
Considering the statement made by Yoshida, it is likely that Final Fantasy XVI will be released sometime next year. Until then, fans will have to sit tight and hold on to their horses - or Chocobos, if you will.
