A month ago, Microsoft decided to shut down development of Microsoft Flight, its free-to-play revival of the classic Microsoft Flight Simulator franchise. At the time, Microsoft said while there would be no further new additions to the game, it would continue to support Microsoft Flight in its present form.
As it turned out, that wasn't entirely accurate. Today, Microsoft released the final DLC plane for Microsoft Flight, via both Steam and Games For Windows Live. The plane is the C-46, a twin engine propeller plane that was first used as a troop and cargo transport during World War II. Microsoft Flight players can download and purchase the plane now for $6.99.
So why is there a new plane being released, when Microsoft had said that there would be no more new content for Microsoft Flight? As it turns out, the game's development team was almost done with the C-46 plane when the decision came down to stop further development. The game's official blog states:
So we had a choice of investigate if it was possible to release, what we would need to do, and get it released... or simply ignore that we could potentially get more content to our community. We did not like the idea of ignoring it so we went ahead and did what was needed and got the C- 46 released.
It looks like this will indeed be the final plane for Microsoft Flight owners. There's no indication that there are any more DLC packs that will be coming out.
