AMD's FineWine technology is still rocking as we get into the Spring of 2022 as a recent comparison of the Radeon RX 6800 XT and the Nvidia GeForce RTX 3080 10GB by German hardware media ComputerBase shows that the Red team's GPU gains nearly 13% in overall performance. Meanwhile the Green team's GPU gained a much more modest 4%.
For those wondering what FineWine really is and whether it actually is a real technology, the answer is quite obviously no. However, this is what is often jokingly referred to the phenomenon of AMD Radeon cards gaining much more performance as the card ages and the drivers mature. There could also be other factors involved too like more robust hardware specifications on the AMD Radeon cards like more VRAM capacity and bandwidth.
Last time when a similar test was conducted in June of 2021, the Radeon card was found to have gained 11% compared to the RTX 3080's 2.4%.
In the new test, on the AMD side, the recent 22.2.3 driver was compared to launch driver 20.11.2, and on the Nvidia side, the 511.79 WHQL driver was compared to the launch driver version 456.38.
