Flipboard launches an ad-free video service costing $2.99 a month

Renowned news aggregator app Flipboard is launching Flipboard TV, an ad-free curated video service, in an attempt to bring collections of videos from publishers and local TV stations in a "premium" offering to consumers. Starting March 6, the service will be available exclusively to Samsung's new Galaxy S20 owners, who will also be receiving a three-month free trial for the app. Once the free trial expires, the service will cost $2.99 per month.

The short-form videos will be present in a customized news feed, which can be accessed under a new dedicated tab in the Flipboard app. Based on users' interests, videos will be suggested, and users may follow videos based on publication or a certain topic to fill their feed.

At launch, the service will have videos from over 100 sources, including popular names like Bloomberg, Variety, The Wall Street Journal, and Rolling Stone among others. Moreover, local news outlets in cities like Des Moines, Orlando, and Sacramento are also on board for Flipboard TV. The service will be featuring content on different topics, including channels for News, Business, Politics, Entertainment, and Technology.
