Recently, rumours about an affordable Samsung Fold device have been running amok. The rumours seem to have been sparked by a claim made by SamMobile about a budget folding phone to be released by the Korean electronics giant. A model number for the mystery device was also cited to be 'SM-F415'. At the time, there was no concrete evidence to support this theory.
A few weeks ago, the alleged smartphone sporting a bendable display resurfaced with the publication of a WiFi certificate. On August 10, the WiFi Alliance certified a Samsung device with the model number 'SM-F415F/DS', confirming that it was a smartphone running Android 10. The letter 'F' in the model ID identified it as a Fold device, as this is the usual way Samsung names its foldable phones. In terms of specifications, not much else was revealed.
Today another tidbit about the Fold handset shrouded in mystery was brought to light by the same source, SamMobile. A support page for the very same smartphone bearing the model number 'SM-F415F/DS' has gone live on Samsung India's website. This confirms that Samsung will be launching a flexible smartphone of some sort in India in the near future.
An Indian launch does not come as a surprise, seeing as how the Galaxy Fold and the Galaxy Z Flip have both made their way to the region. It will be interesting to see what form factor Samsung opts for this time and whether the suspicions about a cheaper folding device are true or not.
