Fossil is introducing its Gen 5E Smartwatch today, and as the name implies, it's not quite a refresh of the Gen 5 Smartwatch. Instead, this is meant to be a slimmed down version that costs less. It's still premium, obviously, as it doesn't cost a lot less, since it's $249 while the Gen 5 Smartwatch is $295.
Probably the biggest difference is that it has 4GB of storage instead of 8GB. The display is a bit smaller at 1.19 inches, but it maintains the 328ppi pixel density that we've seen on the various Gen 5 Smartwatches. It's also got a stainless steel chassis, and interestingly, there's only one button on the side.
It comes with a Qualcomm Snapdragon Wear 3100 chipset, which was a chipset that was introduced in 2018 and first started showing up in devices in early 2019 with the Fossil Sport. The Gen 5 Smartwatch arrived over the summer of that year, but now Qualcomm is onto the Snapdragon Wear 4100, so a Gen 6 Smartwatch should be on the way.
If you want to check out the Gen 5E, you can find it on Fossil's website here. According to the listing, it will ship on November 3.
