OnePlus has announced that it will soon be suspending sales in numerous markets of its latest flagship-class handset, the 3, which it launched a few weeks ago.
The company sold its previous devices using an 'invite system', and many potential buyers were relieved when it ditched that requirement when the OnePlus 3 went on sale in June. As a result of that decision, OnePlus now says that its phone has been too successful - demand in mainland Europe has been so "overwhelming" that it simply can't keep up. The estimated shipping date for new orders "kept getting longer as time went by", it said today.
To deal with the situation, OnePlus will "temporarily pause" sales for over a month in 24 markets. From midnight (CEST) on August 9 until 23:59 (CEST) on September 12, you won't be able to order a OnePlus 3 in the following markets:
- Austria
- Belgium
- Bulgaria
- Croatia
- Cyprus
- Czech Republic
- Estonia
- France
- Greece
- Hong Kong
- Hungary
- Ireland
- Italy
- Latvia
- Lithuania
- Luxembourg
- Malta
- Netherlands
- Poland
- Portugal
- Romania
- Slovakia
- Slovenia
- Spain
Notably, the United Kingdom isn't on that list, so it appears that sales will continue there uninterrupted. OnePlus increased the price of the 3 in the UK by 6.5% last month, due to economic conditions following the 'Brexit' referendum result, but it's not clear if that price rise has had an impact on demand for the device there.
