A growing number of brands have unveiled new Windows handsets in recent months - including the Acer Liquid Jade Primo, NuAns NEO, Bush Eluma, and Alcatel OneTouch Fierce XL with Windows 10 Mobile, among others. Later this week, VAIO is also expected to reveal a new device running Microsoft's mobile OS.
You can now add another handset to the list, as Spanish brand Funker has launched its new W5.5 Pro, featuring an ultra-thin design that's just 6.9mm-thick - even slimmer than Apple's iPhone 6s Plus.
Key specs of the W5.5 Pro include:
- 5.5-inch display with HD (1280x720px) resolution
- Quad-core 1.2GHz Qualcomm Snapdragon 410 processor
- 2GB RAM
- 16GB storage
- 2600mAh battery
- 13MP rear camera with dual-flash
- 5MP front-facing camera
- Bluetooth 4.0 A2DP/HFP/OPP
- Wi-Fi 802.11 b/g/n
- 4G LTE connectivity (bands 3/7/8/20)
- 154.8 x 78.6 x 6.9mm; 135g
Some who have already reported on the device have apparently missed the fact that the Funker W5.5 Pro bears an astonishing resemblance to another Windows 10 Mobile handset - the Coship Moly X1, which is now available to pre-order in the United States.
Indeed, the similarities are more than skin-deep - the Funker device is evidently based on the X1 hardware reference design from Coship which, in addition to selling devices under its own brand, is also an original design manufacturer (ODM) which sells 'white-label' devices to other companies that can be customized and branded as their own.
Along with Funker's logo, the W5.5 Pro gets a thin silver band below the display, which isn't present on the Moly X1. The W5.5 Pro also has a 720p display, differing from the Moly X1's 1080p panel. Other than that, the specs of the two devices are otherwise identical, right down to sharing exactly the same external dimensions.
Like the Moly X1, the Funker W5.5 Pro is also water-resistant - a feature rarely seen on Windows phones.
The W5.5 Pro is available to order from Funker's site, priced at €239.90 EUR (around $260 USD).
