There have been tons of rumors and speculation about when Microsoft and Sony will launch their successors to the Xbox 360 and Playstation 3 game consoles. There certainly have been no lack of rumors and leaked information about both consoles. There's even been attempts to sell off a Next Xbox hardware SDK.
Most people have expected that Microsoft and Sony would launch their next game consoles in late 2013. However, that's not what GameStop CEO Paul Raines has been hearing. In a chat on The Verge, he states:
This week, I'm getting a lot of rumors that are very interesting about 2013. We have not been expecting two more consoles in 2013. We're expecting Wii U this holiday, another one next year, and another one in '14. These rumors change every week, but we're hearing more about next year.
It's hard to believe that Microsoft would wait until 2014 to launch the successor to the Xbox 360. The original version of the console was released back in 2005 and is now seven years old, although the company did revamp the case of the Xbox 360 a couple of years ago. It's more realistic to believe that Sony may not be ready to launch the next Playstation console until 2014.
Meanwhile, the next generation console era will officially begin later this fall, when Nintendo is expected to release the Wii U.
