The latest installment of Microsoft's Gears of War series was given another look at the Xbox E3 briefing in June, revealing a 3-player co-op for the campaign. Players got a chance to publicly experience PvP in Gears 5 for the first time last month in the form of a Versus Tech Test held on consecutive weekends. A few days ago, Microsoft revealed a custom Gears 5 Xbox One X console bundle that includes other installments from the series as well.
Microsoft and the game's developer, The Coalition, have now announced that the title has gone gold, ahead of its launch next month. To commemorate this moment, the full achievement list for Gears 5 has been released as well.
For those unaware of the aforementioned terminology, "going gold" means that a software product is ready to be delivered. In the case of the upcoming title, the game disc has now been released to manufacturing.
Rod Fergusson, Studio Head at The Coalition, commented on this occasion in the following way:
"From all of us at The Coalition, we couldn’t be more excited to share Gears 5 with the world. I want thank the team here who has worked so hard for our fans, and we all hope you are all as excited as we are to play Gears 5. This is furthest we have ever taken the franchise, living our studio mantra of 'if you want to go far go together'."
Meanwhile, Matt Booty, Head of Xbox Game Studios, had this to say:
"I'm very proud of what the team at The Coalition has achieved. Not only is it the biggest Gears ever, it's also the most technically refined, with 4K HDR gameplay at 60 frames per second on Xbox One X, cross-play across all modes on Xbox and Windows 10 and Steam, and updated accessibility features such as Adaptive Controller support. Together with day-and-date availability on Xbox Game Pass, we look forward to welcoming more players into the Gears universe than ever."
The achievement list for Gears 5 features 71 achievements across five different gaming modes, and these can help players accumulate 1,000 Gamerscore. The most rewarding of these is "Seriously 5.0 – Chapter 1", which will award gamers with 100 points upon completion of a variety of objectives, that include completing the campaign on Insane difficulty, mastering a couple of maps, and more. There's also a "Generally Awesome" achievement, that would require gamers to get the rank of General in a Tour of Duty, earning them 50 points as a reward. Other achievements offer Gamerscore in the range of five to 25.
Gears 5's new Horde mode will be unveiled at gamescom on Monday, August 19 at 5:00 p.m. CEST (8:00 a.m. PDT), followed by a story trailer reveal. The title is set to be launched on September 10 for Xbox One, Windows 10 PC, Steam, and Xbox Game Pass. However, Xbox Game Pass Ultimate members and Gears 5 Ultimate Edition purchasers will be able to start playing through early access starting September 6.
