It's been over a year since the next title in Microsoft's famed Gears of Wars series was unveiled as Gears 5. Now, after numerous trailers, a couple of tech tests, and more, the game has been launched worldwide. For the past five days, it had been limited to early access users, or in other words, Xbox Game Pass Ultimate subscribers and Gears 5 Ultimate Edition owners.
Rod Fergusson, Studio Head at The Coalition, remarked on the occasion in the following way:
"Gears 5 is the culmination of an incredible journey after three years of passion and dedicated work by our studio team. We set out to challenge expectations for when fans play a new Gears of War game, and are proud to share Gears 5 with the world."
Microsoft has also noted that the game's 86/100 Metacritic score (so far) showcases it as a hit among critics, with the user rating currently standing at a not-too-shabby 8.9/10 as well.
Gears 5 Operations, which are quarterly updates containing "a ton of content", have also been highlighted as the channels through which free new characters, maps, modes, customization items, and more, will keep arriving. Users who download and play the game by September 16 will be able to obtain the Terminator Dark Fate Character Pack, featuring Sarah Connor and the Terminator T-800 Endoskeleton. Along with free content, there will also be exclusive cosmetic items available through the Gears 5 Store.
AMD put forth the Radeon Software Adrenalin 2019 Edition 19.9.1 graphics driver on September 5, bringing performance improvements for Gears 5 at the start of its early access period. Nvidia, meanwhile, has just released its 436.30 Game Ready driver, bringing in optimizations for the latest entry in the Gears of War series in particular. Either way, fans worldwide can now experience Gears 5 available on Xbox One, the Microsoft Store on Windows 10, Steam, and Xbox Game Pass.
