Apple Music began showing song lyrics on the service following the launch of iOS 10 in June 2016. Today, Apple has expanded the source of its lyrics database for the music service as part of a new partnership with Genius.
With Genius' lyrics database now available on Apple Music, the American digital media company claims subscribers will be able to access lyrics to thousands of songs on the music streaming service with "world-class accuracy and timeliness." A global community of artists and fans contribute to Genius' database, the company said.
As part of the partnership, an integral Apple Music player has also been incorporated into the Genius app and website. That means Apple Music subscribers can play songs from within the web experience or the mobile app if they are logged into their account. The embedded Apple Music player is now available on Genius' desktop version, iOS mobile web, and on its iOS app.
In July, it was reported that Apple Music crossed 45 million paid subscribers in the U.S., surpassing Spotify. The new tie-up with Genius is expected to further improve Apple Music's offerings to subscribers.
