WhatsApp announced that it now has a billion users, just four months after revealing that it had reached a total of 900 million active users. However, it's not the only one to reach that significant milestone this week.
Following the publication of Alphabet's quarterly earnings report yesterday, Google CEO Sundar Pichai revealed on its earnings call that the company's Gmail service also has one billion monthly active users.
The passing of that milestone represents an increase of 100 million users since last May. Google reported in June 2012 that it had 425 million monthly active users, which means that it has increased its active user base by more than 235% over the last three and a half years.
