Motorola has announced plans to
begin selling web enabled cell phones with built-in instant access to Google's
search engine via a button on the phone's keypad, beginning in the first
quarter of this year. Financial details about the deal were not released nor
would Motorola comment on which phones or services the new devices would be
available for.
Google
isn't the only company attempting to carve its niche in the cell phone market.
On Friday Yahoo announced the launch of a new service dubbed "Yahoo Go Mobile,"
that aims to provide Yahoo users with access to their data from their web
enabled cell phones. While Yahoo Go Mobile will work on any cellular network,
only Nokia's 60 series phones are being supported at present. Support for
additional devices is planned including discussions with Motorola to bring the
Yahoo Go Mobile service to their devices.
