Google has announced that it’s making bill payments through Tez more straightforward. The firm is making it so that you only need to add a bill recipient once to make future payments quicker. To add a new biller, you simply search the list of supported companies for the ones you want. Once you’ve found your biller, you’ll add your account number to link Tez and give the payment a name.
In its announcement, Google said:
“For most recurring utility bills, Tez will fetch any new bill and send you a timely notification when it arrives. Checking whether you’ve paid a bill in the app is as simple as tapping the biller’s name on your Tez home screen. There, you’ll be able to view all past payments grouped by biller, as well as manage bills from multiple accounts.”
Initially, Tez will support over 90 billers. The list includes electricity, water, and gas providers and well as TV, mobile, and broadband providers. Google is eager to get you to start using its service so it has said that for every new biller you pay this month, you’ll get a scratch card that could let you win up to ₹1000.
To add a biller account to Tez, check to see whether your biller is supported in Tez, then follow this set of instructions:
- Open Tez.
- From the bottom of the screen, slide up.
- Tap New > type in the name of a biller.
- From the search results, tap the name of the biller > Link account.
- Follow the instructions on the screen, if you're asked to enter your ID, you can find it on a physical bill or e-bill.
Once you've added your billers to Tez, do the following to make a payment:
- Open Tez.
- From the bottom of the screen, slide up.
- Tap New.
- Type in the name of a biller.
- From the search results, tap the name of the biller > Make payment.
- Select an account.
- You'll see one of the following: Pay a custom amount or Pay an available bill.
- Once you've picked an item, follow the on-screen instructions.
- When done, view the bill to confirm that the payment was successful, it can take around three business days for the payment to show up on your account.
