Google Maps received a major update back in February that revamped the design and brought about a new tabbed interface. It also received enhancements to the Live View feature. Now, the Saved tab is receiving a redesign that makes it easy for users to access recently saved locations and quickly find locations in their saved lists.
The top of the Saved tab now features a ‘Recently Saved’ carousel that contains the most recent saves, making it easy for users to quickly come and check for the most recent entries without having to go through all the lists to find them. The entries also contain the names of the lists that the locations are saved to, making it easier to navigate to them.
The next section in the tab houses the ‘Nearby saved’ list that suggests places that are close to the user. The locations are sorted by distance, helping users quickly select their desired places. However, these items are only served when location permissions are enabled for the app.
The Saved tab will also show users places based on their location history. The places are sorted by the time, city, and region, which also includes commutes. The list pulls data from the users’ Timeline – for those that have enabled Location History. Below these sections sits the ‘Your lists’ view that defaults to four lists, which can then be expanded. Users can also create lists from this section by tapping on the ‘New list’ button.
The updates to the Saved tab should begin rolling out to all Maps users starting today. Since the redesigned tab has just begun heading to devices, it should be a while till all users receive the change.
