Google revamps G Suite into Google Workspace with a new, unified experience

Google Cloud has announced Google Workspace, a new brand identity for its integrated product experience that brings together messaging, meetings, docs, and tasks. Google Workspace is essentially a transformation of G Suite, with additional features.

Google had announced a unified experience to create, communicate, and collaborate in July this year as the ‘new normal’ redefined office experience. The Google Workspace is that collaboration experience that works whether you’re in an office, working from home, or in the field.

It brings together core tools from Google like chat, email, voice and video calling, and content management into a single, unified experience. There’s also new features like linked previews, smart chips in Docs, Sheets, and Slides (when you @mention someone in a document, a popup will display details providing context), document creation in rooms, as well as picture-in-picture for Meet across Docs, Sheets, and Slides.

According to Google, more than 2.6 billion users choose to use Google’s productivity and collaboration apps every month and there are more than 6 million paying Google Workspace business customers.

Google Workspace is now generally available to all Google Workspace business customers and will roll out to consumers in the coming months. Google Workspace will also come to education and non-profit customers in the coming months.

The new brand identity too will roll out in the coming weeks and users will see new four-color icons for Gmail, Drive, Calendar, Meet, and tools like Docs, Sheets, and Slides.
