Google announced today a new partnership with ADT that will see the integration of their smart home devices and security monitoring system, respectively. The goal is to provide improved home automation services to customers in the U.S.
The partnership is intended to integrate Google's Nest devices, including the Nest Cam and Nest Hub Max, with ADT's home security and automation offerings to "better protect and connect people to their homes and families". To that end, more than 20,000 ADT professional technicians will be allowed to sell and install the Google Assistant-powered smart home devices.
In the long term, ADT aims to improve its home security monitoring services with the machine learning capabilities of the Nest devices. For customers, that means they will receive fewer false alarms, more options to receive alarm events, and improved alerts when potential household incidents are detected such as when a package has arrived. The alliance will also provide ADT customers access to Nest Aware for up to a month.
As part of the team-up, the search giant is also investing $450 million in ADT. The investment will allow Google to own 6.6% of ADT’s common equity and the deal is expected to close in the third quarter of 2020.
