It has been two long years since GoPro announced the HERO4, and during that time, many companies have been catching up, some even offering cheaper and better equipped solutions. It looks like GoPro is finally ready to re-energize its product line, with the announcement of the HERO5 Black and HERO5 Session.
With its latest release, GoPro has consolidated its action camera line to just two models (at one point offered consumers four different models). The HERO5 Black and Session will gives users an experience unlike any other action camera before it. Both cameras will shoot 4K footage at 30fps, but the real discussion surrounding the new models is in its ability to accept voice commands. This will allow users more versatility when shooting, as they will now be able to simply speak commands to the unit and have it perform actions like taking pictures, burst shots and videos. The new HERO5 Black and Session will be waterproof up to 10 meters without the need of a protective case and will be able to auto upload image and footage to the cloud.
Where the HERO5 Black differs from its Session sibling is in its ability to offer higher resolution images at 12MP (10MP on the Session), stereo audio recording, wind noise reduction, RAW and WDR photo modes. The HERO5 Black will also offer a 2-inch touch screen display, whereas the Session will be reliant on a mobile device for previews and full control.
