While the game's servers opened up for players who pre-purchased Guild Wars 2 this past weekend, today is the official launch day for Guild Wars 2. The sequel to the fantasy MMO game from developer ArenaNet and publisher NCsoft was first announced several years ago.
Unlike other recent high profile MMOs like Star Wars: The Old Republic and The Secret World, which started out with monthly subscriptions, Guild Wars 2, like the original game, requires no such monthly fee to play after players purchase the game itself.
The official Guild Wars 2 website has now posted up a free online manual and video tutorial for gamers who might be new to the MMO scene in general, and Guild Wars in particular, to quickly get them up to speed.
Even though the game has now launched, publisher NCsoft will still be holding official "launch parties" in several cities in the US on Saturday. In a post on the game's official Facebook page, there is a list of the locations and times for the launch events, including GameStop stores in Austin, Orlando, New York City, and Los Angeles. There will also be a launch party in Seattle at Pacific Place during this weekend's PAX Prime event.
The post states:
At each event, ArenaNet employees will be on hand to sign your Guild Wars 2 games, books, and posters. We’ll also have giveaways of t-shirts, posters, and an exclusive in-game item. The giveaways are first-come-first-serve as long as our supplies hold out. Finally, we’ll hold a raffle at each GameStop location for one Guild Wars 2 Collector’s Edition.
