Microsoft has released the "Halo 3: ODST" downloadable expansion for "Halo: The Master Chief Collection," and codes for the add-on are currently going out to early users of the game.
Gamers who played "The Master Chief Collection" on or before Dec. 19 will receive a code via Xbox Live to download the add-on for free, while those who played the compilation after that date will be able to purchase the expansion soon for $4.99. Additionally, Microsoft has promised that all users will receive a remake of the "Halo 2" map Relic for free. Both downloads are part of an apology Microsoft announced for the problems that have plagued "The Master Chief Collection" since launch.
The release of the "Halo 3: ODST" add-on follows the accidental posting of the expansion on the Xbox store, which stated it would be released May 29. Microsoft later said that page was posted in error and the expansion is in final testing.
While most of the problems facing "The Master Chief" collection have been fixed, some issues still remain with the game's online matchmaking system.
"Halo 5: Guardians," the next entry in the popular Microsoft-owned franchise, is slated for an Oct. 27 release on Xbox One. Developer 343 Industries is expected to reveal more about the game at the E3 gaming conference in a few weeks.
