As Microsoft prepares for yet another major product launch, the release of Halo 4 on November 6th, the company is also announcing a new and interesting partnership with American Express that will let players of the Xbox 360 shooter win some prizes, cash, and perhaps a trip to the 2013 edition of E3 in Los Angeles.
Venture Beat reports that American Express is giving players a way to link their Amex credit card with their Xbox Live account. Then, when they start playing Halo 4, they will be eligible for some prizes.
American Express's head of product Dave Wolf states:
Halo 4 is probably going to be the biggest game release in history ... this is a first ever on the Xbox platform … being able to tie your Xbox platform behavior to real-world experiences has never been done in this way.
The first prize a Halo 4 gamer can get is a coupon for $50 off at Best Buy if they buy $100 or more. All you have to do is complete one of the game's Spartan Ops missions, no matter what the difficulty level is. If you complete the "Wake Up John” level in the game at normal or higher difficulty, you will get a $25 American Express card, which should partially pay off your game purchase.
The trip to E3 2013 is, naturally, going to be harder to achieve. You have to be among the first 30 people in the US and UK to finish Halo 4 completely on Legendary difficulty. Good luck with that.
In addition to the Halo 4 prizes, American Express is also offering statement credits on other purchases once you link the card to your Xbox Live account, as explained at Slickdeals.net.
