Halo 4 launched for the Xbox 360 in early November, around the time the first Windows Phone 8 devices started to go on sale. Those products could download Xbox SmartGlass, which is supposed to allow smartphone owners a way to have a "second screen" experience with some Xbox 360 games and videos. For Halo 4, Xbox SmartGlass provides information such as player stats to hardcore Halo gamers.
While this feature apparently works with the Windows 8, iOS and Android builds of Xbox SmartGlass, many Halo 4 fans who have Windows Phone 8 devices have reported getting error messages when trying to access this information in messages on the Xbox.com forums. These problems were first reported in November but have still yet to be fixed.
It does seem rather odd that Microsoft has been extremely slow in addressing this issue, since both Halo 4 and Windows Phone 8 were two of the company's star product launches in the fall of 2012. Engadget did get a hold of Microsoft for comment and received a statement that said they were aware of the problem, added:
We are actively working on a fix and expect to have a solution within the coming weeks. We appreciate your patience as this gets resolved and apologize for any inconvenience this causes.
This just feels to us like a greatly missed opportunity for Microsoft to showcase the links between the Xbox 360 and its other products, but hopefully this problem will be solved soon.
