Halo Infinite gets Slayer and other multiplayer modes on December 14

Halo Infinite multiplayer launched a few weeks ago, and since then players have been waiting for new ways to experience the title. Luckily, there's a major update coming on December 14, 2021 that'll add Slayer, Fiesta, Free-For-All (FFA), and Tactical Slayer (SWAT) playlists to the free-to-play portion of the game.

Halo's community director Brian Jarrard said the following on Reddit roughly a day ago. The news probably went under the radar given the copious announcements from The Game Awards 2021 and the weekend.

Last weekend I said I'd be back once we had updates to share around near-term playlist plans for Halo Infinite. I'm happy to report that a Slayer playlist is officially locked and loaded for the update next week. Four new playlists: Slayer, Fiesta, FFA, and ... SWAT ... will all be added via a services update on Tuesday.

Keep in mind that Slayer will be rather basic on December 14, but it'll gain more options over time. Developer 343 Industries says Slayer variants just weren't ready in time for the holidays. Hopefully, the first patch in 2022 will expand upon Halo Infinite multiplayer's most popular mode.

Next week's update will also include adjustments to challenges including removing some particularly frustrating mode-specific ones, reducing some requirements for others, making the weekly ultimate challenge less intensive ... and adding brand new challenges specific to the new playlists.

Progressing through the paid Battle Pass still seems like a chore, but this patch should tweak the challenge requirements to make it easier to level up and unlock those cosmetics. The update will also bring with it the "first steps" of performance-based experience.

Additionally, Jarrard said that the team was aware of server issues that occur at times when playing Big Team Battle. The developer is investigating this issue, as well as other problems during Ranked play, and will release patches as soon as it has solutions.
