343 Industries unveiled Halo Infinite gameplay for the first time during the July Xbox Games Showcase, with the almost nine-minute demo presenting a mission several hours into the campaign. In an interview with IGN, Halo Infinite Studio Head Chris Lee had revealed a bit more about the upcoming shooter, stating that it will be a new platform.
“Halo Infinite is the start of our platform for the future,” Lee had said. "We want Infinite to grow over time, versus going to those numbered titles and having all that segmentation that we had before. It’s really about creating Halo Infinite as the start of the next ten years for Halo and then building that as we go with our fans and community."
It certainly sounds like Halo 7, Infinite 2, or some another named variant won't happen during the upcoming console generation, with Infinite being the base that gets built up as the Xbox Series X matures. In addition to multiplayer updates to expand the map pool and modes, which we already see in current games, this could mean the story campaign will get new chapters added to it as years go by. The game will receive a free ray tracing update after launch to further elevate the graphics as well.
The Xbox platform-exclusive will see the Banished faction from Halo Wars 2 return as the opposing force. As seen in the gameplay reveal, Master Chief also has a new trick up his armor in the form of a grappling hook for both traversing the open world and a tool for fighting.
Halo Infinite is launching this holiday on the Xbox Series X, Xbox One, and PC via the Microsoft Store and Steam. Xbox Game Pass subscribers are also gaining access to the title on day one.
