Halo show to reveal Master Chief's face, plays important role in story

The long-awaited Halo show launches towards the end of March and focuses on the search for the titular superweapon. We've already seen the bombastic trailer that focuses on Master Chief and Cortana, but The Game Awards' host Geoff Keighley just said that the show will unmask Master Chief. For those of you unfamiliar with the game, we've never seen Master Chief's face aside from a brief glimpse at his eye in Halo 4.

While the underhanded tweet didn't provide any context like a quote — or even a link — to the interview, we tracked down the source and it seems like unmasking Master Chief will play an important role in the story. Speaking with IGN, Halo's executive producer and 343 Industries' Studio Head of Transmedia, Kiki Wolfkill, said the following.

You will see his face. For some people, it’s been a moment 20 years in the making, and for other people it is something that feels very hard to imagine. We absolutely respect both sides of that fence, those who really want to see Chief’s face and those who really don’t. But for the nature of this story, it felt really important to connect with the Master Chief in a different way, and that meant showing the face.

It'll be interesting to see how this plays out in the show. It's understandable that many long-time fans will be upset with the decision, but there are many others who will be excited. The Halo series already been renewed for a second season so expect a lot more adventures from Master Chief and Cortana.
