A few days ago a leaked trailer revealed that the upcoming Street Fighter V would be an exclusive title for Sony’s PlayStation 4 console and the PC. Lots of Xbox fans were up in arms about their console missing out on the game but the head of Xbox, Phil Spencer, has made his feelings pretty clear on the subject.
In a number of tweets over the weekend Spencer acknowledged the frustration that some of Microsoft’s users are feeling while also pointing out the obvious by saying: “Business deals happen. We won’t do all of them.”
Simply chasing every exclusive possible is not a solid business decision and Microsoft must focus its resources where they know they’ll have the biggest returns. In line with this, Spencer went on to say that he’d rather focus on the 1st party franchise that’s already available and exclusive – a clear reference to Killer Instinct.
Finally Spencer touched on the idea of having a dedicated gaming convention for Xbox fans, like the X0 convention used to be in the early 2000s, saying it might be an improvement on certain fronts. However he also balanced this with the obvious conclusion that Gamescom and E3 “are important”. A nod and wink for next year’s events where the company is expected to highlight all of its exclusive titles for 2015.
