It was a little over a year ago when Microsoft announced Xbox Play Anywhere at E3 2016. It allowed users to purchase a game that was compatible with the program digitally, and own it for both their Xbox One and Windows 10 PC. While it initially started out with just a single title, the list of games has slowly grown, and now, two more titles are being added, bringing the available games total at an even 30.
The first is a game that has long been in development and initially started off as a Kickstarter project, eventually being picked up by publisher tinyBuild Games. Hello Neighbor (originally scheduled for an August release date) has been making the rounds as an alpha and more recently entered into beta. The game is a stealth survival horror that requires the player to break into a neighbor's home and uncover a terrible secret. Although this may sound easy, it is in fact, quite the opposite. The neighbor's home has some of the oddest design elements, features traps, and even has a roller coaster on its roof.
The second is a game that was announced earlier in the year and is part of the ID@Xbox program. If unfamiliar, the program enables game developers to self-publish their digital games on the Xbox One and PC. While it started off small, the program has blossomed, with more than a 1,000 titles currently in development. Tacoma is the second game from developer Fullbright, who won critical acclaim for its first title, Gone Home. In Tacoma, you are protagonist Ami, and are tasked with finding out what went wrong on a space station that led to the death of an entire crew. The game's charm lies in the fact that you have to figure out these details by constructing a narrative about what happened from the existing environment and with help from AR recordings.
Tacoma is currently available for $19.99, while Hello Neighbor is available for pre-order with a release set for later this year.
