Another month, another set of games to be given away for free via Microsoft's Games with Gold program. As December approaches its final days, your chances to score its free games are numbered. While some time remains for Xbox Live Gold subscribers to get in on the freebies, we're now given an early look at what the new year will bring. Below is the list of free games available on Xbox starting in January.
Killer Instinct (Season One Ultimate Edition) - The arcade fighter that launched with the Xbox One back in 2013 will finally be available with all that came with season one. The Ultimate Edition includes Jago, Sabrewulf, Thunder, Glacius, Sadira, Orchid, Spinal and Fulgore, 8 costumes, 16 premium accessory packs, and KI Classic game. Available starting January 1 for Xbox One.
Zheros - This new side-scrolling shooter offers cooperative play. Zheros looks like a playable version of Pixar's The Incredibles, pitting superhuman characters against seemingly-endless waves of robotic enemies. Available starting January 16 for Xbox One.
Dirt Showdown - A descendant of the Dirt series that puts your racing skills to the test through the outlandish "Hoonigan", "Demolition" and "Race" gametypes. Available starting January 1 on Xbox 360 and Xbox One.
Deus Ex: Human Revolution - Square Enix won a lot of praise for its continuing Deus Ex franchise with Human Revolution. Set in a technologically-advanced future, you will have the ability to progress through missions as an augmented human soldier how you please - be that through stealth or all-out firefights. Available starting January 16 on Xbox 360 and Xbox One.
As of November, all Xbox 360 titles through the Games with Gold program are downloadable to the Xbox One by visiting the xbox.com/gameswithgold website and manually selecting the "Download to Xbox 360" button(s). While the Xbox team is working to modify the Games store on the Xbox One to include Xbox 360 games that are made available through the backwards compatibility feature, the website remains your best place to secure those older titles.
